Copyright for NECC Students and Educators

Fair Use and the TEACH Act

Fair Use is an exemption that allows for limited use of copyrighted materials for educational purposes. TEACH enables educators to use copyrighted materials for distance education, with certain restrictions.

Obtaining Permissions

In many cases, you can eliminate the need for permission or fee by simply giving your students a link to the work instead of making copies of it.

  Public Domain

Once the copyright on a work expires, the work is considered to be in the public domain and can be freely duplicated, used, and altered. The following charts explain when a work will enter the public domain.
