Deaf Studies

A guide to resources for students in the Deaf Studies Program at NECC

Finding Books

The NECC Libraries have over 46,000 books and films. We also have a collection of 20,000 e-books which are in our library catalog. If you want to see what the other libraries in our network own, change the scope to All HELM or View Entire Collection. You can request books and movies using your NECC Library card and PIN number.

Remember, if you can't find any material on your topic, ask an NECC librarian for assistance.

Find books, e-books and more by searching the NECC library catalog

Search Strategies: Deaf Studies

Think of the main concepts of your search and key them into the search box. For example: an effective searches would be Deaf Culture or American Sign Language. Try variations on your terms to retrieve more results.

In general, you will be more successful using more general, rather than specific terms when searching for books. You will be able to use much more specific terminology when searching for articles in the library databases.

If you need to expand your search beyond the NECC Library collections, simply select All HELM Libraries from the drop-down menu in the library catalog and repeat your search. You can request books from all of the HELM network using your library card number and password. The items you request will usually be delivered to the NECC libraries in three to five business days.
