Gale databases include several built-in accessibility features at the top of most materials. See below for instructions on how to use each feature.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Translate
- conduct your search and select the entry you wish to read from the search results
- at the top of the entry but below the article title, select the translate icon
- Click the solid black down arrow within the "Translate Article" option box and select the language in which you would like to read the entry from the drop-down menu
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Increase Text Size
- conduct your search and select the entry you wish to read from the search results
- At the top of the entry but below the article title, select the larger "A" from the box above the words "Font Size." Continue to click the larger "A" until the text is large enough for you to comfortably read. To reduce the text size, repeatedly click the smaller "A" from the box above the words "Font Size" until the text is small enough for you to comfortably read. Note that, once text size has been changed, all text in the database will appear in the chosen size throughout the session (until the window is closed or the user logs out).

Listen (NOTE: this function is only available for full-text entries)
- conduct your search and select the material you wish to read from the search results
- At the top of the entry but below the article title, select the listen icon
- Note that if the text has been translated into a different language (see above for instructions), the listen feature will read aloud in that language
- A control bar will appear in place of the Listen icon once clicked and reading will begin. Click the orange "play" or triangle icon (tagged for screen reader use) to begin listening to the entry. Click the orange "pause" or vertical lines icon that replaces the "play" icon to pause the audio. Click the orange "stop" or square icon to stop the audio.
- To turn off text highlighting, switch highlighting options (sentence and word, word only or sentence only), alter the highlight and/or word color during highlighting, turn on enhanced text visibility, change the reading speed, or enable automatic scrolling, click the gear icon and select your preferences from the Settings menu that pops up. Click the gray X at the top right or click the Close button at the bottom left of the box to close the settings menu.
