Integrating Sources into Your Paper

Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing

The Research Paper

So you have gathered all the sources you need for your paper and you are ready to write. How do you use your sources in your paper yet still leave room for your own thoughts?

Your research paper cannot simply be a long string of sources. You must find a way to mix your sources with your own ideas and conclusions. Common techniques for waving sources into your paper include summarizing, quoting and paraphrasing.  Use the navigation tabs on the left to find examples of each of these techniques.
