How to Embed Library Resources in Blackboard

A how-to guide on how to embed library resources into Blackboard courses

Embedding Research Guides

How do I attach a research guide to my Blackboard course?

Attaching a library research guide to Blackboard is simple. You can do so, using the Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). The following steps will guide you through embedding a research guide in your Blackboard course.

Step 1:

Once you're logged into your Blackboard course, create a module page. You can do this, by selecting the plus (+) sign on the top left of your screen. When you click the plus sign, a dropdown menu will appear. Select "Module Page."

The "Add Module Page" option, will show a pop-up that will request a name for your page.

When you press submit, your module will appear on the left menu.

Step 2:

Go into the module page that you created. For this example, the displayed screenshot (below) is titled "Embedding Library Resources into Blackboard." In the tabs above your screen, you will see an option named "Build Content." When you press it will display a two-column menu (pictured below). To add a libguide or a research guide, select "Springshare (manual)," located on the left column of the menu.

Step 3:

When you click "Springshare (manual)," you will be directed to a screen titled "Create Springshare (manual)," where you will provide a title and a description of the guide that you're sharing. Once completed, click "Submit."

Step 4:

Blackboard will direct you to the Module page, where you will see the tool content that you added. For this example, the tool we have selected in the red box is titled "Research Guide." The selected title of the tool will be in bold, while the description will be underneath the title.

Step 5:

By selecting the Tool that you added, you will be directed to the "LibApps Library Content Selection" (pictured below). In the first option, "LibGuide Site," you must select "Research Guide - necc.mass.libguides.com." This option will lead you to the "Content-Type" dropdown menu. Here you will select the research guide you wish to add.

Step 6:

When you select the research guide you want to include in your Blackboard module, you will be directed to the page pictured below, "LibApps Library Content Selection." This page allows you to view the content you're sharing or edit the content you selected. Keep in mind that you cannot edit the information on the research guide that you're sharing. You can only edit the selection of what you share.

As an instructor, you are the only person that can see the below-pictured page. Your students will see the research guide that you shared.
