Google Scholar is a search engine for scholarly literature and other various academic materials. With Google Scholar you are able to search for a variety of materials, such as articles, theses, books, abstracts, and court opinions. These come from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities, and other websites. Unfortunately, some of the scholarly articles you will find using Google Scholar are not available in full-text or are not free, in this case, ask a librarian for help locating the article.
Searching in the library catalog and various library databases is different from searching on the open web. In most cases, a keyword search is the best way to search for articles on a topic. To get the best results, think of the most important concepts in your search, then separate them with the word "and" in the search box.
For example, if you are researching a paper about gender identity during the Trujillo Regime, the search Gender and Trujillo will bring more results than a phrase such as "views on gender in the Dominican Republic during the time of General Rafael Trujillo."
Try experimenting with other terms to find more books or articles. Try more specific words in your search to get different hits. To get even more hits, use the word or.
*** Many of our databases allow for you to search book chapters, don't forget to try looking there as well ***
