According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the field of Microbiology is: "The branch of science that deals with microorganisms. Also (chiefly with distinguishing word): the study of the microorganisms associated with a particular disease, habitat, etc."
The NECC Libraries are here to help with all aspects of the research process. The field of Microbiology is one that relies heavily on articles from Scholarly Journals, also known as Academic Journals. Databases provided by the library allow students and faculty access to different types of scholarly information while on or off-campus. Please see the side navigation bar for detailed information on how to access all the library has to offer.

Helicobacter pylori bacterium
Colored transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a Helicobacter pylori bacterium (formerly Campylobacter pyloridis). This gram-negative bacillus (rod-shaped) bacterium is curved (as here) or spiral in shape. Numerous hair-like flagellae are visible (light blue). Colonies of H. pylori occur on the stomach mucous membrane in people who suffer from gastritis, and this bacteria has been linked to stomach ulcer formation. H. pylori may also be a co-factor for gastric cancer as its presence increases the risk of stomach tumors.
